Van Diemen

23 June 2003- Panoz at Le Mans

Elan and Van Diemen owner Don Panoz had his most rewarding Le Mans 24 Hours for several years ......

...... when Max Papis, Olivier Beretta and young American Gunnar Jeanette beat off all other LMP 900 prototypes for the honour of "best non-Volkswagen" in the 2003 running of the Sarthe endurance classic.

The 3 Panoz drivers in the JML Panoz Elan V8 finished 5th overall behind the 2 Bentleys and the 2 Audis, with young Jeanette holding off a determined charge from both the works Courage and the works Dome over a hectic final hour, after a close 20 hours of racing in extremely high temperatures.

Elsewhere, in a good weekend for the Elan Group, Van Diemenís were victorious in the UK and the Panoz G Force won the Indy Racing Leagueís race at Pikes Peak in Colorado, with Scott Dixon winning for G Force customer team, Target Chip Ganassi Racing, and Mo Nunnís Tora Takagi also in the top six.
